Space, door swing, and ceiling height decide the next buy as much as budget. These sketches are typical layouts — confirm your own measurements.
One-car garage
Vehicle clearance, door track, opener height
Spare bedroom
Shared floor, noise, fold-down gear
Basement
Ceiling height, stairs, humidity notes
Before you buy steel
- Measure ceiling to the lowest obstacle (lights, opener, duct), not just the drywall height.
- Mark door swing and the path you walk every day.
- Leave walkaround past the longest bar you might use.
- Put mats under the work area before a stand or rack arrives.
