About

Rack and Plate is Joel Anderson's buying guide for a garage or spare room. It lives at rackandplate.com. It is not a store.

The site is written from a home setup that started with adjustable dumbbells, floor mats, a mountable pull-up bar, and a power stand. The dumbbells were Bowflex and FitRx. No model number is named, and the site does not claim those units were tested.

That is why the guide does not start with a full power rack. Adjustable dumbbells, mats, and a doorway or wall pull-up bar already cover a lot of work. The useful next buy, if you want squats, presses, and pull-ups off a door frame, is a power stand. A rack, a bench, and plates are the later upgrade.

Named products after that are examples people already compare. Specs on the later setup page come from manufacturer listings. Check the current listing before you order.

The later shortlist assumes a typical one-car garage or spare room with a standard ceiling, where you may not be able to bolt into the floor. It is not written for a commercial gym.
